Course Reflection

Today is the last day of our course, and we learned a lot during these days. We started with two basic website, the Schoology and the WordPress, and with the help of these two website, we learned many related software, and I gain a lot of experiences from this course, too.

From this class, I learned that we should learn to find information by ourselves. In our learning experience, we just follow what teacher said and seldom think about what we learned. But this class taught me that we should use our own multiple ways to find our resources. This age is changing fast, what we are using today can be soon disappear in the near future. So the ability of searching for information is the most important for us. It is also the most important thing I learned from this course.

There are several tools which impressed me most, and I am going to list three of those tools in this reflection. The first one is the powtoon. Our group number found this website at first. It is a video creating website, and It can be used for free in the four day after you finish your register. I like this website very much, because it is hard for us to find a proper software to make a video. I used to make video by recording the powerpoint, but obviously, It is no longer a good idea for a college student. Powtoon Is a very convenient tool for us to use. Its operation is very approach to powerpoint, which we have used for almost ten years. It means that we have already quite familiar with the operation. We can add and reduce cartoons and words on the board, and we can also control Its speed and sequence. The second one is the classdojo. Classdojo is a software for teacher, students, and parents to interect better. There are also many interesting founction in this software, for example, one can share his or her project and videos in this software, and It provide a really good plateform for everyone in the education system. I learned a lot from this software. First of all , I watched two of its videos. I felt completely attracted by the videos because Its  plenty content and Its atractive form. The third one is padlet. I like its form and sites very much, because It makes me feel free to poll things on.

There are also some tools I do not want to use again. For example, I may not want to use the testmoz, because I do not like its site very much. The second one is the wenjuanxing. Although It is Chinese, It have to log in by QQ to vote for what you want. I think it is quite limited because If you do not have a QQ, you can not vote  on it. The last one is the polleverywhere, because in my opinion, the founction of polleverywhere is not colorful enough.

In my opinion, the team work is very important. When working as a team, we should be totally involve in your group work. But on the other side, you should be modest, and never be too mean to others to insist your own view. So being polite and sincere is very important. To understand the content better, you have toolisten carefully at class, pay attention to you teacher, and try to practice by yourself.

To make us better, we also have to avoid some actions. The most important one is not to always be silence. Try to express your opinion openly. The second one is do not be too mean to your group member. The last one is we should divide our mission more reasonable. Every one in group should have something to do and to express themselves.

Personally, I am good at writting and practice the mission. But I am not quite good at oral English and express my opinions. Although I have something to express, I may feel nervous or afraid to say it to others. I missed a lot of chance because of this emotion. In my future, I will try to practice my ability to talk before others, and I believe that I can acheive my expectation one day.

Day Seven

This morning, Dr. Wang introduced two more quiz website to us. except for polleverwhere, we met two other quiz websites, which are testmoz and Wenjuanxing. compare with polleverywhere, I see both pros and cons in these three websites. In my opinion, polleverywhere has a nice and brief interface. the blue colour makes the readers feel comfortable and pleasant. But Its founction is not as much as the other two website. The testmoz is brief and clear, but it have to choose one correct answer, which is not a good design. wenjuanxing is much more sultable for Chinese people, because it is a Chinese website. But it have to log in, which is not as easy as testmoz to use.

Wengjuanxing have many other extra founction except for making surveys. For example, it can send red pockets to award the reader. The catelog is also very clear and colourful, and we can choose what kind of quiz we are going to do easily.

These qiuz websites can be apply to the class activity, too. We can make a quiz to test the children’s standard on this knoledge to revise our teaching plan. It can make sure that the plan will be sultable to each student in my class. After class, we canalos use a quiz to test the mastary degree of the children. A good application of quiz will make the classroom more efficient.

I suppose that this can met the fifth standard of the ISTE standard. It is because that It can provide evaluate an reflect on current research and professional practice. This can make the classroom more efficient.

Day Six

Video Editing

Today, we first have a lesson about digital story-telling. From this class, I learned about how digital story-telling is used in class. according to my comprehansion, I think that digital story-telling can be used when children are tired and are not able to focus their attention. a proper digital story-telling can attract children’s attention and make them focus on your class again. We do a project about this, and I learn some skills of speaking from our project, because we have to talk to the public and completely show our confidence.

In the afternoon, Dr. Wang asked us to continue editing our video and choose our own tool. I still chose the powtoon because it is very easy to use. This time, I tried to add my voice into my video. I record my voice track, and add it into my music track. During this process, I have to calculate my time in every second. The internet is always too slow and it makes me failed many times. But finally, I find my own way to solve my problem, and finish my video before class over.

For those who want to use video in their classes, My suggestion is that you should try. You must find the way by yourselves, and finally, you will find a most sultable tool for yourselves.

In my opinion, this video project met the second standard of the ISTE standards. Because this project ensure all the student to presue their individual thoughts, and all the students decide their own learning models. This can also develop their own learning experience, too. I believe students will benefit from it during his or her whole life.

Audio Aditing

In this morning, we are asked to make an audio by ourselves. We tried to find some audio software to do our job, and the process is a little bit hard, but finally I found a online website which is called Apowersoft. It is very convinent for us to use. First of all, It is an online software, we can use it without download. In addition, the founction of this software is mutiple. It can be used to record voices, pictures and videos. More over, It is a free softeware. We do not have to pay for its good survice.

In the afternoon, Dr.Wang asked us to make our own video. This part is even harder than making a audio, because it is hard for us to find a proper software to make a video. I used to make video by recording the powerpoint, but obviously, It is no longer a good idea for a college student. So we tried our best  to find a better way to make a video. This website is very useful and easy to operate. because the way to edit this software is very close to the powerpoint. We can use easy way to make the video good looking and brief enough for young children t understand it. Although we met some problem during this process, I feel glad to have such an expierence.

This morning, We learned about how to make a web page. a web page is a part of the huge world-wide web. We can use a web page to share things with people all over the world, and to communicate with each other on the internet through the web page. A web page is quite different from the document because on a web page , you can share everything with the world. You can put everything you like on your web page, for example, we put music, video, and pictures on our web page, we also put artical and links on it. It is free and convient to use. But a document page is single and boring. We can only put on one special thing in the document at a time, and Its site is always the same and not attractive enough for us.

A website is made up of few web pages. A website canbe about everything, we can have many links, pictures, and even videos and document page in a website.Website bring us convinience and happiness.We gain and share imformation with each other, and it has already become a very important part of our life. Before create a website, we have to put everything detailed on storyboard. This is because it can help you have a clear and fluent thought. If a team is going to make a website, they have to discuss all the detail together, because a website should be a entire thing. It should be fluent and have acoherent thinking.

When doing our team work, we met some problems, too. for example, we found that we are not familiar enough to the software, and we can not operate it well. But after that, we solve this problem by ouselves. And during this process, Dr.Wang also helped us a lot.

In my opinion, the website making can meet the first ISTE standard. Because making a website can help develop children’s creativity and the ability to think and plan.

Day Three

A new teaching software for me: classdojo

Classdojo is a software for teacher, students, and parents to interect better. There are also many interesting founction in this software, for example, one can share his or her project and videos in this software, and It provide a really good plateform for every one in the education system. I learned a lot from this software. First of all , I watched two of its videos. I felt completely attracted by the videos because Its  plenary content and Its atractive form.

I think that teaching and learning should be a pleasant procee for children, and this kind of software can help teachers’ class to be more colourful. Moreover, although this software is designed for students of all ages, It is even more sultable for preschool and kindergarten children. Because the colourful theme can catch their attention easily. As a future preshool teacher, I am willing to use this software in my class activities, because I think It can help a lot to my work. When I was a young child, my teacher praise us by stickers, but now we can use the software to give them awards. It is convinient for both teachers and children.

This software is also connect to the ISTE standards. The videos in the software educate children to be nice , and this connect to the 4th line of the ISTE standard, To promote and model digital citizenships and  responsibility. The video teach children to control the “beast” in their mind, and this is very important for a citizen.

In the afternoon, Dr.Wang introduced another software to us, which is called padlet. Padlet is a free white board for everyone to post their life. We can put our pictures, words, videos, links on it. Whatever we want to share with others, we can post it. The operation of this software is very covinient, and the most important thing is, the link of your white board can be share to other website. Readers do not need to click the link, because it can be use on other website such an blogs.

What I have learned from this software is that, freely express is very important for both adults and young children. When doing the tasks, children need some ways more livly and free. They need varity of forms to finish their task. Padlet is such a good software for young chuldren to use.

To use padlet in my class, I will give chilren a chance to let them express what they want to express on this board, and than share with others. When doing some boring works, I will allow them to add a padlet in it to make the task more colourful and attractive. Playing and creating are children’s nature, so we have to do something to let them play and create their own works.

In my opinion, this software can be connect to the first line of the ISTE standards. This software can promote children’s creative thinking, and it also allow children to explore the real world freely. It is a kind of facility to encourage children learning and creativity.

 

Day Two

Today is the second day of our ed326 class. In the morning, Dr. Wang show us the orgin of a flipped classroom and what is a flipped classroom. flipped classroom is a new kind of teaching model. It means more interaction, more preview works but less homework. She gave us some details to prove that flipped classrom is a very effective way for teacher to use. For students, the flipped classroom also have a lot of benefits. For example, It can be much easier for students to catch up with missed work and to learn things at their own pace. of course, less homewok can also reduce their anxious to the homework. As a college student, I will be glad if my professor use this model, because it is very effective. If I can not understand in class, it can be a disaster for me to finish the homework for today. But this new model will solve this problem prefectly. If I teach a class, I will use this method, because for young children, It can be not only efficient, but also much more interesting than the traditional classroom.

After that, we start to work on our first group work. We created our own plan with the flipped classroom teaching model. The theme we choose is to teach children to cognize time. Howerver, we met with some difficulties at first of our work. One of the biggest challenge is that we do not have enough expierence to do such a plan. We can  not figure out what we should do before the class. But with the help of Dr.Wang, we finally finished the plan. For the process is hard, the most exciting thing is we did it well at last. We give ourselves a perfect  result. I also learned a lot from this project. I learned how to design and how to coorperate with other peaple. I also get some new understandingof the flipped classroom teaching model.

In the afternoon, we worked on the suvey for our own teaching plan. We work together and conclude all the opinions of our group members. Our English degree gave us some limitation, but we still finished it well. We sometimes run out of ideas, but there are always something new come out and help us solove the problem. We all did a good job in the team work. I think  this tool is very easy to use. Its site is brief and clear, which I like it very much. and the operation is also very easy to control. Its founction can help me do many other works, too. For me, I prefer to use this tool to do some quiz and survey to help me spreading my class activities. I am quite sure that It will be both nice and useful.

Today is a busy day, but I am very pleased to learn these new things. I will keep working on it to make myself more skilled

About Jasmine Fu and Ed 326

I am Jasmine Fu, and I live in Hongkou district in shanghai. I am a sophomore majoring in early childhood education. At first , this decision was made by accident. My mathmatics was really poor so that my teacher suggest me to attend the spring college entrance examination. I chose my majority casually. But after a year’s study, I found that it is a very great thing to learn. During this year, I learned a lot. I start to understand that preschool teacher might be one of the greatest job in the world. We are the first teacher of these children, and these children are being through their most important period. I start to have interest in it, and I have a strong willing to learn it better and become an excellent preschool teacher.

In today’s class, we learned about some basic defination of flipped class, which I have never heard about before. Dr Wang showed us three videos about the preschool class in America. The teachers in those videos shows several kinds of different ways to lead children to learn differient knowledge. They use electronic products to help children understand those new things. Children can focus on one thing for about five minites, and the flipped class can make children keep their attention. Technology can be very useful to our future carreer, especially in such an advanced world.  To use technology expertly is very important for a new preschool teacher.

After today’s class, I have much more ideas about the learning activities in my mind, and I think it is a really good begining for me to master this course in the future.
